Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Box Office Buzz: Rs 100 Crore Opening Expected, Lifetime Collection Could Touch Rs 3,000 Crore

The much-anticipated film Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is heading towards a potentially historic box-office debut, with trade experts estimating opening-day earnings of Rs 75-100 crore across multiple languages. If the film succeeds in connecting with audiences, its lifetime collection could reach an extraordinary Rs 1,000-3,000 crore.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the big-budget adaptation of the Indian epic features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film combines a celebrated story, a major star cast and international-level visual effects, creating considerable expectations ahead of its theatrical release.

Industry insiders believe its biggest strength could be the emotional and religious connection audiences have with the story of Lord Rama.

Religious Sentiment Could Become Ramayana’s Biggest Box Office Strength

Film exhibitor Vishek Chauhan believes Ramayana should be viewed differently from conventional commercial entertainers because of its religious significance.

The owner of Roopbani Cinema in Bihar’s Purnia said a substantial section of the audience could watch the film out of devotion rather than relying on reviews or critical opinions.

Chauhan pointed to the commercial potential of faith-based cinema and suggested that a strong connection with devotees could take the film’s collections to unprecedented levels.

He projected that Ramayana could earn Rs 2,500-3,000 crore in India if it successfully attracts the Hindu devotee base.

Exhibitors Predict a Historic Box Office Run

Distributor Raj Bansal believes Ramayana has the potential to become India’s biggest cinematic release and surpass the reported collections of the Dhurandhar franchise.

He also highlighted the timing of the film’s release, coinciding with the festive period associated with Lord Rama and Diwali.

Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said the film has several factors working in its favour, including its scale, technical quality and the emotional connection Indians share with the epic.

However, he stressed that strong storytelling and audience acceptance would ultimately determine whether the film breaks existing box-office records.

  • Cinepolis Sells Over One Lakh Tickets
  • Advance booking trends have generated optimism among multiplex operators.

Ashish Misra, Head of Commercialisation at Cinepolis India, revealed that the chain had sold more than one lakh tickets and planned over 1,600 shows on the opening day.

However, he cautioned that the festive calendar could influence the film’s initial box-office performance.

With Dhanteras, Choti Diwali and Diwali falling across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, family celebrations and religious activities could affect cinema attendance, particularly during evening shows.

He expects Monday to offer a clearer picture of the film’s regular theatrical demand.

Miraj Cinemas executive Munshi said demand was particularly encouraging in Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The chain plans to screen the film across 225 screens, with 960 shows daily in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.

  • IMAX and 3D Screenings Attract Premium Audiences
  • The film is also witnessing interest in premium viewing formats, including IMAX and 3D.

According to Akshaye Rathi, some IMAX tickets are priced at Rs 3,000 or above, while regular tickets start at approximately Rs 200, depending on the city and cinema.

Several exhibitors are maintaining regular festive pricing, particularly in smaller cities, to make the film accessible to family audiences.

South India Box Office Faces Competition

Despite the nationwide excitement, trade experts expect a more competitive environment in southern markets.

The releases of Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 could influence Ramayana’s performance in the region.

Chennai-based trade analyst Ramesh Bala believes Karnataka could be a stronger market for the film because of Yash’s popularity. Sai Pallavi’s presence may also help attract audiences in other southern states.

He expects the film to collect around Rs 30-40 crore from South India, adding that its performance will depend heavily on audience feedback.

Rakesh Gothwaman of Chennai’s Vettri theatres also indicated that regional releases could attract greater attention from local audiences after Friday.

  • A R Rahman, Hans Zimmer and DNEG Add Global Appeal
  • Ramayana brings together an impressive creative and technical team.

The music is composed by A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer, while Oscar-winning visual effects company DNEG is responsible for the film’s VFX.

Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal and Chhichhore, has directed the project, which is produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash.

With opening-day expectations of Rs 75-100 crore and lifetime projections reaching Rs 3,000 crore, Ramayana faces enormous commercial expectations. Its ultimate box-office journey will depend on audience response, word of mouth and its ability to sustain theatrical interest beyond the opening weekend.
