Dubai Unveils Floating Museum of Art Over Dubai Creek.
Dubai is preparing to add a stunning new chapter to its skyline with the Dubai Museum of Art (DUMA) — an architectural marvel that will appear to float above the waters of Dubai Creek. Blending visionary design with cultural depth, the project reaffirms Dubai’s ambition to be a global hub for art, creativity, and innovation.
Sheikh Mohammed Announces Landmark Project
The project was unveiled by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who described DUMA as “a museum that floats above Dubai Creek to embody the city’s culture, civilisational spirit, and artistic brilliance.” He said the museum would add “a new dimension to Dubai’s landmarks and architectural landscape.”
Sheikh Mohammed also praised Abdullah Al Futtaim and his son Omar Al Futtaim for their contributions, noting that the initiative reflects the powerful partnership between the private sector and Dubai’s cultural vision.
A Fusion of Architecture and Art
Designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, DUMA’s design is inspired by the natural elements of water, sky, wind, and light, capturing harmony between innovation and nature. Its shell-like structure pays tribute to Dubai’s pearl diving heritage, symbolising the city’s connection to its roots while embracing modern creativity.
Inside, DUMA will feature five floors of contemporary and modern art exhibitions, showcasing both global and regional talent. The museum will also include a library, educational spaces, café, and observation decks overlooking Dubai Creek, creating an immersive cultural experience for visitors.
A Global Cultural Destination in the Making
Located on an island in Dubai Creek, DUMA is envisioned as a space “where the world gathers for art and culture.” Once complete, it will stand alongside Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks — the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Frame, Museum of the Future, and Mohammed bin Rashid Library — cementing Dubai’s position as a world capital of art, design, and innovation.
