Beatriz Taufenbach Deletes Instagram Amid Backlash Over Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Teaser
Kannada superstar Yash’s upcoming film Toxic has sparked controversy following the release of its teaser on January 8. A brief yet intimate car scene featuring Yash and a female actor quickly went viral, drawing sharp online reactions and prompting multiple complaints. In the wake of the backlash, the actress in the scene—Beatriz Taufenbach—has reportedly deleted her Instagram account.
Actress Identity and Career
Speculation about the actress’s identity emerged immediately after the teaser dropped, with fans eager to know who appeared opposite Yash. Director Geetu Mohandas later confirmed in an Instagram Story that the actress was Beatriz Taufenbach. Following the revelation, reports suggested she had deactivated her Instagram profile amid mounting criticism.
Beatriz Taufenbach is a Brazilian model and actress who started her career in 2014. She is also a singer and has worked across multiple creative fields before being cast in Toxic.
Legal Backlash Over the Teaser
The controversy escalated when the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Women’s Wing filed a formal complaint with the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, labeling the teaser as “obscene” and “explicit” and claiming it negatively impacts women, children, and Kannada cultural values. The Commission reportedly approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for action.
Sources within the CBFC clarified that since the teaser was released only on YouTube, it falls outside their certification jurisdiction, which applies only to theatrical films and trailers.
Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli also lodged a complaint with CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, describing the teaser as “grossly obscene, sexually explicit, and morally offensive.” His complaint emphasized that the trailer’s wide circulation on social media exposes minors and the general public to content he considers socially harmful.
Industry Response
Director Geetu Mohandas responded to the criticism via an Instagram Story: “Chilling while people figure out female pleasure, consent, women playing systems, etc., etc.,” appearing to address the trolling and moral outrage.
While the scene faced public scrutiny, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma publicly praised Mohandas for her bold creative choice.
Toxic also stars Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19, set to clash with Dhurandhar Part 2.
