After Assault Case Verdict, Kerala Actor Says He Has ‘Lost Faith’ in Trial Court

Nearly a week after the verdict in the Kerala actor assault case, the survivor has broken her silence with a strongly worded social media post, raising serious concerns about the conduct of the trial court and questioning whether all citizens are treated equally before the law.

In an Instagram post shared on December 12, the actor reflected on the long legal battle, writing, “After 8 years, 9 months, and 23 days, I finally saw a small ray of light at the end of a very long and painful journey.” She noted that six of the accused have been convicted and said she was “grateful” for the outcome.

“This moment is dedicated to those who chose to call my pain a lie and this case a made-up story,” she wrote, adding, “I hope you are at peace with yourselves today.”

The survivor also addressed what she described as misinformation surrounding one of the accused. “Accused No.1 was not my personal driver, not my employee, and not someone I knew,” she clarified, stating that he was a driver assigned for a film she worked on in 2016 and that she had met him only once or twice before the day of the crime. “Please stop spreading false stories,” she urged.

Expressing distrust in the trial process, the actor said she began feeling as early as 2020 that “something was not right,” alleging that even the prosecution noticed changes in how the case was being handled, particularly with respect to one accused.

“Over the years, I approached the High Court and the Supreme Court multiple times, clearly stating that I did not trust this court,” she wrote, adding that all requests to transfer the case away from the same judge were dismissed. “After years of pain, tears, and emotional struggle, I have come to a painful realisation: ‘Not every citizen in this country is treated equally before the law.’”

The survivor further claimed she repeatedly sought a proper investigation into the alleged tampering of the memory card linked to the case, saying the report was not shared with her despite multiple requests. She also pointed out that while she was seeking a fair trial, the accused had filed a petition seeking the continuation of proceedings before the same judge, which deepened her concerns.

The actor said she even wrote to the President and the Prime Minister seeking intervention and requested that the trial be conducted in open court so the public and media could observe the proceedings—a request she said was denied.

While the post did not name any individuals, the survivor concluded by thanking those who, in her words, “inspired me to be nothing like them.”
