Iran’s Supreme Leader Warns ‘Battle Begins’ as Hypersonic Missiles Target Israel.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a stark warning to Israel on Wednesday, declaring the start of a broader conflict amid escalating hostilities between the two nations. His remarks followed Iran’s claim of launching hypersonic missile strikes on Israeli targets overnight.
In a symbolic message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Khamenei wrote:
“In the name of the renowned Haydar, the battle begins. Ali, with his Zulfiqar, to Khaybar returns.”
The message invoked deeply rooted Shia Islamic symbolism. “Haydar” and “Zulfiqar” refer to Imam Ali, a central figure in Shia Islam and the bearer of a legendary double-edged sword. The mention of “Khaybar” references a historic 7th-century battle and is often used in ideological rhetoric within militant circles.
In a subsequent post, Khamenei added:
“We must act forcefully against the terrorist Zionist entity. We will not show leniency toward the Zionists.”
Hypersonic Missile Strikes Escalate Conflict
Iran’s armed forces confirmed that hypersonic missiles were used in the overnight attack on Israel, marking a significant escalation in the six-day-long conflict. The missile launches were described by Tehran as a direct response to Israeli aggression.
The United States responded with strong words, as President Donald Trump called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender”, further heightening tensions in the region.
Explosions Rock Tehran After Israeli Strikes
Within hours of Iran’s missile barrage, Israel launched airstrikes on the Iranian capital, Tehran, with explosions reported in several areas early Wednesday morning. Sirens were heard throughout the city, though Iranian officials have not formally acknowledged the attacks.
Israeli airstrikes reportedly targeted:
Imam Hossein University, linked to the Revolutionary Guards
The Khojir missile production complex, a key strategic facility near Tehran
These strikes were reported by Iranian media and international news agencies, including Reuters.
Missile Sirens in Israel Amid Airspace Breach
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across multiple locations as Iran launched a fresh wave of missiles. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported the interception of a hostile aircraft approaching from the east and confirmed that alerts were triggered in line with standard protocol.
“A suspicious aerial target was intercepted by our Air Force,” the IDF said in a statement.
As both countries exchange missiles and warnings, fears of a wider regional war are intensifying, drawing global attention to the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.
