Missing for Nine Months, North Carolina Woman Found Alive in Colorado.
Kelsey Pittman, a 33-year-old woman from North Carolina who vanished without a trace near California’s Death Valley in late 2024, has been found alive in Colorado after nine months.
The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her recovery in a statement on July 22, calling the outcome “a relief” after months of uncertainty and extensive search efforts. The exact circumstances of her discovery have not been disclosed, out of respect for Pittman’s privacy and that of her family.
Pittman was first reported missing in November 2024 by her mother, who had been unable to reach her. In February 2025, her abandoned vehicle — a white 2009 Chevrolet HHR with North Carolina plates — was found near Slab City, a remote desert area close to Death Valley National Park, often inhabited by off-grid communities and travelers.
That discovery triggered a months-long search across the harsh desert terrain, involving drones, cadaver dogs, and volunteers. Investigators also pursued leads involving aliases Pittman might have been using, including “Infinity Jane” and “Jane Jones.”
Despite their efforts, authorities had not found any concrete trace of her as recently as early July. Her unexpected reappearance in Colorado has brought the case to a hopeful — though still mysterious — turning point.
Officials have not provided information about where Pittman has been during her disappearance, or what led to her recovery. For now, the focus remains on her health and privacy.
