Elon Musk Slams EU After X Fined €120 Million for Digital Rules Breach.

Elon Musk hit back at the European Union on Saturday after his social media platform, X, was fined €120 million ($140 million) for violating EU digital regulations.

Speaking to his 230 million followers, Musk said the EU should be “abolished” and sovereignty returned to individual nations. “I mean it. Not kidding,” he emphasized. In a follow-up, he added: “I love Europe, but not the bureaucratic monster that is the EU.”

The fine, issued Friday, marks the first use of the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) for content-related violations on a social platform. The Commission cited multiple breaches, including misleading use of the “blue checkmark,” limited access for researchers to public data, and insufficient transparency in advertising practices.

The ruling underscores the EU’s push to enforce stricter transparency, data access, and content moderation rules on tech platforms. Musk’s criticism quickly drew international attention, highlighting tensions between tech companies and regulators.
