Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday announced that India has successfully launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system. “India has carried out the successful launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based Mobile launcher system. This next-generation missile is designed to cover a range up to 2,000 km and is equipped with various advanced features,” Singh wrote.
The first-of-its-kind test was conducted from a specially designed rail-based launcher that can move across the rail network without preconditions, enabling cross-country mobility, rapid launch capability, and reduced visibility.
Singh congratulated @DRDO_India, the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), and the Armed Forces on the successful test, noting that it places India among a select group of nations capable of launching canisterised missiles from a rail-mobile system.
The Agni-Prime is a key step in India’s efforts to strengthen its strategic deterrence and enhance the mobility and readiness of its missile systems.
