‘Saiyaara’ Nears ₹50 Crore in 2 Days, Redefines Box Office Success for Debutants.
Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is proving to be more than just a film—it’s a full-blown cultural moment. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the romantic drama has defied expectations to become the year’s most surprising box office breakout. After collecting ₹22 crore on its opening day, the film surged further on Saturday with ₹26.25 crore, bringing its two-day domestic total to ₹48.25 crore. The ₹50 crore mark now seems like a formality by Sunday evening.
What sets Saiyaara apart is not just its numbers, but who it’s outperforming. With minimal pre-release hype and no major stars, the film has eclipsed the openings of projects led by seasoned actors—surpassing Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik, Shahid Kapoor’s Deva, and even Kajol’s Maa. Re-releases of cult romantic hits like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Sanam Teri Kasam couldn’t come close to Saiyaara’s draw.
Its success signals a renewed appetite for romance on the big screen—and Gen Z seems to be driving the charge. With a Hindi occupancy rate of over 51% on Saturday, Saiyaara is demonstrating both front-loaded curiosity and sustained momentum.
In an industry where even star kids struggle—Loveyaapa, featuring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan, managed just ₹6.8 crore lifetime—Saiyaara is rewriting the rules. Even Alia Bhatt’s Jigra, bolstered by both stardom and a marketing blitz, earned less in its first two days (₹30 crore) than this unassuming love story.
What’s perhaps most remarkable is that Mohit Suri opted for near-zero pre-release promotions. Much like his 2013 hit Aashiqui 2, the director kept the lead pairing under wraps until release. The strategy has paid off once again. Audiences are responding not to celebrity, but to sincerity.
Aneet Padda, best known from Big Girls Don’t Cry, delivers a grounded, moving performance, while Ahaan Panday’s confident screen presence is already drawing comparisons to seasoned stars.
Backed by Yash Raj Films and fuelled by strong word-of-mouth and glowing reviews, Saiyaara has proved that good storytelling, powerful emotion, and melodic charm still resonate—no PR playbook needed. The box office has a new love story, and it’s one no one saw coming.
