Air India cancels additional flights as Middle East conflict disrupts air routes

Air India on Sunday announced the cancellation of multiple international flights, including several services to Europe, as the escalating Iran-US conflict disrupted key air routes after a number of countries closed their airspace.

The regional spillover intensified after Iran targeted US facilities in several Gulf nations following joint US-Israel strikes on its territory.

“Close monitoring and careful assessment of the evolving situation in the Middle East have necessitated further curtailment of our scheduled operations, with the safety and security of our customers and crew remaining our highest priority,” Air India said in a statement.

According to reports, more than 700 flights across the Gulf and wider Middle East region were suspended on Sunday following the flare-up, with the number expected to rise.

Operations at Dubai International Airport were also halted. Authorities said an Iranian drone struck the aviation hub, causing limited damage to part of a terminal building and injuring four people. Data from FlightRadar24 indicated that all flights to and from Dubai were cancelled as of Sunday morning (IST).

The widespread disruption follows Saturday’s joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s subsequent retaliation, further destabilizing regional air traffic.
