Goodbye, Dada: Ajit Pawar Laid to Rest in Baramati, Thousands Pay Tribute
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP president Ajit Pawar was cremated today in Baramati with full state honours, as thousands of supporters and party workers gathered to bid farewell to the veteran leader.
Mortal remains and final procession
Pawar’s body was brought Wednesday evening to the Vidya Pratishtan campus in Pune district. Supporters lined the streets, chanting “Ajit dada amar rahe” and “Ajit dada parat ya” as the flower-decked vehicle passed, reflecting the deep grief in his home turf.
The body was kept at the Katewadi residence until 9 am, then transported to the GD Madgulkar Auditorium for the start of the final procession. The cortege proceeded to the Vidya Pratishtan ground, where the state-honoured cremation took place.
Tragic plane crash
Pawar (66) and four others died when their chartered aircraft crashed barely 200 metres from the Baramati runway on Wednesday morning. His sudden passing leaves a leadership gap in the NCP and the BJP-led coalition in Maharashtra.
Leaders and supporters
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several political leaders attended the funeral. Thousands of NCP workers and residents from across Maharashtra also flocked to the town to pay tribute. Authorities confirmed a memorial will be built in Pawar’s honour. Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and investigations are ongoing.
