Akshaye Khanna is back in the spotlight with his gripping performance in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar.
His portrayal of the film’s villain has earned widespread praise, with many comparing his standout presence to Bobby Deol’s viral ‘Jamal Kodu’ moment—boosted further by Dhurandhar’s hit Arabic track FA9LA. This year has been defining for both actors. Akshaye delivered impactful roles in Chhaava and Dhurandhar, while Bobby strengthened his roaring revival with The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, building on the momentum created by Animal.
Priyadarshan: ‘Awards Ignored Him, Audiences Never Did’
Filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has collaborated with Akshaye on several projects, told Hindustan Times, “Even in Drishyam 2, look at Akshaye’s performance. People have always loved him—this isn’t just Gen Z.”
He added, “In the past, media and PR shaped an actor, but today audiences decide. The fact that everyone is talking about him shows he was always a favourite. Award shows ignored him, but for me, he’s one of the top five actors of the last 20 years.”
Laxman Utekar: ‘He Deserves More Than Chhaava and Dhurandhar’
Chhaava director Laxman Utekar echoed the sentiment. “I always had Akshaye in mind for Aurangzeb. His craft, his screen presence—his look test itself was magical,” he said.
“The recognition he’s getting with Dhurandhar is well deserved, but he deserves even more success.”
Bobby Deol’s Comeback Continues to Impress
Producer Ramesh Taurani, who backed Bobby’s 2018 comeback with Race 3, said he’s delighted to see the actor’s renewed craze. “Bobby was a star even before his debut. The buzz around him was unreal. He’s not just good-looking—he’s now a very strong actor,” he said.
‘Right Role at the Right Time,’ Says Komal Nahta
Trade analyst Komal Nahta believes the resurgence of both actors stems from impactful roles. “It’s all about getting the right role. Bobby had a small part in Animal, but it created a huge impact. Akshaye should continue signing more films and not step away after Chhaava and Dhurandhar,” he added.
