India’s move to secure the extradition of wanted gangster Anmol Bishnoi from the United States has prompted his family to urge the Centre to guarantee his safety once he lands in the country.
His cousin Ramesh Bishnoi said the family “respects the law” but fears Anmol is being targeted primarily because he is the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. “If he is being brought to India, the government must ensure his safety. That is our only request,” he said.
A senior police official confirmed that Anmol—accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique and wanted in the 2024 firing outside Salman Khan’s Mumbai home—is being deported and is expected to arrive in Delhi on Wednesday. Mumbai Police had submitted two extradition proposals, while the Centre will decide which agency gets his custody first. Several criminal cases against him are pending across states.
Officials revealed that Anmol had been travelling between the US and Canada using a forged Russian passport, and had been detained earlier in both countries. The NIA had also announced a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest. His name had surfaced in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case as well.
Reacting to the latest developments, former MLA Zeeshan Siddique, son of Baba Siddique, said he received an email indicating Anmol had been “removed” from the US. “He should now be brought back and face trial in India,” he said.
