Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s first response to the NDA’s commanding lead over.
The Mahagathbandhan in Bihar turned into a sharp attack on the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls. Yadav suggested that the ruling alliance’s advantage was linked to the pre-poll revision exercise, which the Opposition has repeatedly questioned.
In a post on X, Yadav alleged that the “SIR game” had influenced the Bihar outcome and warned that such “electoral conspiracies” would not succeed in upcoming elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and other states. “The game played by the SIR in Bihar will no longer be possible elsewhere because this conspiracy has now been exposed,” he wrote.
By 12:42 pm, the NDA was ahead in 193 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan trailed with 45, and others with 5. The majority mark in the 243-member Assembly is 122.
Yadav claimed the Opposition would remain vigilant and prevent any alleged misuse of the voter-roll revision process. “We will not let them play this game any further… We will remain alert and thwart the BJP’s plans. The BJP is not a party, but a fraud,” he said.
NDA leaders dismissed the allegations, calling them excuses from parties unable to accept defeat. They said the SIR was a transparent exercise to remove fake and duplicate voters and strengthen the integrity of the rolls.
Responding to Yadav’s remarks, BJP leader Raj Bhushan Nishad told NDTV that the SP chief should acknowledge the importance of the SIR process, especially in identifying illegal voters. “Instead, we have seen how people like Akhilesh Yadav ji have supported illegal immigrants,” he said.
