The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has denied issuing threats to Bhojpuri actor and politician Pawan Singh, days after he complained to Mumbai Police about receiving extortion calls allegedly linked to the gang.
Pawan Singh filed two complaints with the Mumbai Police, claiming he received threatening calls warning him against sharing a stage with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The complaints have been forwarded to the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch, which has launched an investigation to trace the source of the calls.
An audio clip purportedly featuring gangster Hari Boxer surfaced after Singh’s allegations. In the clip, Boxer rejected the threat claims and accused Singh of making “baseless” allegations to obtain security cover. “The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has not threatened Pawan Singh,” Boxer said in the audio message quoted by India Today, adding that the gang “does not issue threats.”
However, Boxer also made remarks indicating hostility toward individuals associated with Salman Khan. Investigators are examining the clip as part of the ongoing probe.
Probe into threat calls
According to reports, one of the alleged calls warned Pawan Singh of “serious consequences” if he appeared on stage with Salman Khan. Similar messages were reportedly received by members of Singh’s professional team, suggesting a coordinated attempt to intimidate him.
With the case now under investigation, Pawan Singh and his associates are expected to appear before Crime Branch officials to record statements and submit supporting evidence. Police are analysing call detail records and tracing the digital footprint of the callers.
Pawan Singh previously appeared as a contestant on the reality show Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan. Lawrence Bishnoi has been lodged in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail for several years, though authorities say his criminal network continues to operate across India and abroad. His long-standing feud with Salman Khan dates back to the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
Bishnoi’s younger brother, Anmol Bishnoi, is currently in NIA custody following his deportation from the United States in connection with multiple high-profile cases.
