Adani Power Bags 2,400 MW Bhagalpur Project, Plans Rs 30,000 Crore Investment.

Adani Power Ltd has won the 2,400 MW Bhagalpur (Pirpainti) power project after quoting the lowest tariff of Rs 6.075 per kWh, beating competitors Torrent Power, JSW Energy, and Lalitput Power, sources said. The Bihar government had floated the tender to meet the state’s electricity demand, projected to rise to over 17,000 MW by 2034-35.

The tariff includes a fixed charge of Rs 4.165 per unit and a fuel charge of Rs 1.91 per unit. Officials called the rate “highly competitive,” noting it is lower than recent bids in Madhya Pradesh. The e-bidding process followed standard government procedures to ensure transparency.

Adani Power’s Rs 30,000 crore investment is expected to boost industrial activity, generate employment, and strengthen infrastructure in the region. The project, first planned in 2012, was relaunched in 2024. The land, fully owned by the state, will be leased to the developer at nominal rent under the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Policy 2025.

The project has drawn political criticism, with Congress alleging preferential treatment for the Adani Group. Officials, however, stressed that the tariff reflects competitive bidding. Analysts say the investment could help Bihar attract private players, create jobs, and reduce migration by improving power availability and industrial growth.
