Bill Gates Denies Allegations in Epstein Files, Says He ‘Regrets Every Minute’ with Epstein
Bill Gates has strongly denied claims in newly released Jeffrey Epstein files suggesting he contracted a sexually transmitted disease from encounters with Russian women. Speaking in his first public interview since the documents were disclosed, the Microsoft co-founder called the allegations false.
In an interview with Nine News on Wednesday, Gates said the emails cited in the files were written by Epstein to himself and never sent. “The email is false. I don’t know what his thinking was there,” he said. “It just reminds me—every minute I spent with him, I regret it, and I apologise that I did that.”
Gates addressed his association with Epstein, saying he only attended dinners with the late convicted sex offender and never visited his island or met any women. “Although the time was a mistake, it had nothing to do with that kind of behaviour,” he said.
His ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, described the allegations as “beyond heartbreaking,” noting that reading about Epstein’s victims reminded her of her own daughters.
What the Epstein files allege
The documents, part of a release of three million pages by the US Justice Department, include emails from July 2013 suggesting Gates allegedly required medication “in order to deal with the consequences of sex with Russian girls.” The emails also implicated Gates’ former adviser, Boris Nikolic, in facilitating actions described as “ethically questionable or potentially illegal.”
Gates’ spokesperson called the claims “absolutely absurd and completely false,” describing Epstein as a “proven, disgruntled liar” and asserting the documents reflected only Epstein’s frustration at not maintaining a closer relationship with Gates.
Gates has previously acknowledged knowing Epstein but has consistently denied any misconduct. He has expressed regret over associating with Epstein after learning of his criminal history. The latest allegations are part of a massive disclosure of Epstein’s records, which include emails, photographs, and other documents detailing his contacts with prominent individuals.
