Hathras Teacher Dies Under SIR Pressure, Administration Pledges Support for Children’s Education.

A schoolteacher performing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duties in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh, died on Wednesday morning after reportedly collapsing on his way to school. Local sources said he had been under severe stress due to the heavy workload associated with SIR tasks.

The deceased, Kamalkant Sharma, lived in Brahmanpuri locality of Sikandrarao town. His wife stated that he had been facing intense mental strain in recent days because of SIR-related responsibilities.

Hathras District Magistrate Atul Vats and the Superintendent of Police visited Sharma’s family, calling the death “unfortunate” and noting that the exact cause would be confirmed after the autopsy. The administration announced that one day’s salary of the teacher would be deposited in a fixed deposit for his four children and assured full support for their education.

In recent weeks, several Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) have reportedly collapsed or died under SIR pressure, raising concerns as voter roll revisions continue across 12 states. The Election Commission of India has extended the SIR schedule by a week, giving voters and officials additional time to verify and update electoral rolls.
