State-owned BSNL has partnered with global tech giants Ericsson, Qualcomm, Cisco, and Nokia to launch advanced digital skilling programs.

At the Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT) in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Announced in the presence of Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the initiative aims to train over 2,000 students annually in emerging technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), networking, and cybersecurity.

Ericsson will set up a 5G Centre of Excellence using its global Ericsson Educate platform, while Qualcomm will establish the Qualcomm Institute to provide cutting-edge 5G and AI training along with internship opportunities. Cisco plans to expand its Networking Academy program to enhance skills in networking, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure. Nokia will create a 5G Centre of Excellence and an AI/ML Lab to train 300 students annually, supported by the Telecom Sector Skill Council.

This collaboration is part of the Department of Telecommunications’ vision to create a Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre (TIRTC) at BRBRAITT, focusing on telecom-specific R&D, product innovation, and entrepreneurship. The initiative aligns with national programs such as Digital India, Skill India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Courses will range from short two-week modules to comprehensive 84-hour programs, with phase one investments exceeding ₹1 crore. The training will cover public sector employees, trainers, students, and telecom service providers through short, medium, and long-term courses.

Scindia highlighted India’s growing importance as a global talent hub and reiterated the government’s vision to make India a “vishwaguru” (global teacher). He also mentioned upcoming partnerships with companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tejas Networks.

Ericsson India’s country head Nitin Bansal stated, “India stands at the cusp of a digital revolution, and our success depends on how well we skill our people. Skilling is about empowering individuals and driving innovation.”

This public-private partnership marks a major stride in preparing India’s telecom workforce for the future, while also opening employment avenues for trained professionals.
