Diljit Dosanjh, Imtiaz Ali’s Chamkila Bags International Emmy Nominations.
Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali have brought Indian cinema into the global spotlight with two major nominations at the International Emmy Awards 2025.
Diljit has been shortlisted in the category of Best Performance by an Actor for his portrayal of Punjabi music legend Amar Singh Chamkila in Netflix’s biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila. The film itself has earned a nomination in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category.

Reacting to the recognition, Diljit shared on Instagram: “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali sir.” The director, in turn, praised his lead actor, posting: “Making us proud, Diljit Dosanjh. So well deserved.”
“This nomination is truly special. I congratulate the team of Chamkila and all the people of Punjab who contributed to this film, because it belongs to that land. Diljit Dosanjh twice over — thank you very much.”
Co-star Parineeti Chopra, who underwent a striking transformation to play Chamkila’s wife Amarjot, also celebrated the recognition, writing: “Woohooo proud of my Team Chamkila!”
About Amar Singh Chamkila
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the Netflix original traces the meteoric rise of Chamkila — a Dalit Sikh youth from Punjab who abandoned factory work to pursue music. Known for his bold, rebellious lyrics, Chamkila became a cultural icon before his life was tragically cut short in an assassination at the age of 27. The film, released on April 12, 2024, combines music, social commentary, and personal drama to recreate his story.
Global Spotlight for Indian Storytelling
Diljit will compete against David Mitchell, Oriol Pla, and Diego Vasquez in what promises to be a highly competitive category. The nominations underscore how regional Indian stories are finding global resonance.
India has had a history of shining at the Emmys — most notably when Netflix’s Delhi Crime won Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmy Awards in 2020.
