Chinmayi Sripaada Slams Troll for Mocking Her Sexual Harassment, Calls Out Victim-Blaming.
Singer and voice artist Chinmayi Sripaada has hit back at an X (formerly Twitter) user who mocked her past sexual harassment and questioned her right to speak on women’s issues. Known for her outspoken stance on gender equality and women’s safety, Chinmayi did not hold back in her response.
THE EXCHANGE ON X
The incident began after a quote from Chinmayi’s husband, actor and filmmaker Rahul Ravindran, went viral. In it, he said that after marriage, it was Chinmayi’s choice whether or not to wear a mangalsutra. The quote drew angry reactions from some men online, prompting Chinmayi to respond:
“He literally said it in some context during an interview which became a tweet. The rage from men calling him all sorts of abuses — I am worried for the women here, truth be told.”
One user then replied with a deeply offensive remark, saying, “You couldn’t save yourself when Vairamuthu allegedly groped you, but here you are worried for other women.”
CHINMAYI’S SHARP RESPONSE
Firing back, Chinmayi wrote, “Yes. Because getting groped and molested is MY fault. Why do men like you have to bring up my sexual harassment episode and my molester to prove some non-point? Just please vanish into thin air in Delhi so that I don’t have to breathe it.”
Her strong comeback drew widespread support, with users praising her for standing up against online harassment and victim-blaming.
BACKGROUND: HER #METOO STORY
During India’s #MeToo movement in 2018, Chinmayi accused lyricist Vairamuthu of sexually harassing her during a concert tour in Switzerland in 2005. She also amplified the voices of other women who made similar allegations against him.
After speaking out, Chinmayi was removed from the South Indian Cine, Television Artistes, and Dubbing Artistes Union (SICTADAU) for supporting women who had accused dubbing union president Radha Ravi of misconduct.
PERSONAL LIFE
Chinmayi married actor Rahul Ravindran on May 5, 2014, after dating for a year. The couple has twins — a daughter, Driptah, and a son, Sharvas — born on June 18, 2022. Despite repeated trolling and attempts to silence her, Chinmayi continues to advocate for women’s safety and accountability in the entertainment industry, often using her platform to challenge misogyny and double standards online.
