Box Office Battle: Rajinikanth’s Coolie Hits ₹109.8 Cr in 2 Days, Narrowly Ahead of War 2.
Rajinikanth’s Coolie is off to a record-breaking start at the box office. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial earned ₹44.8 crore net on Friday, taking its India total to ₹109.8 crore in two days. The Independence Day holiday gave the film a strong boost after its historic opening.
With this, Coolie has become the fastest Tamil film to enter the ₹100 crore club, surpassing Leo and 2.0, which reached the milestone on their third day.
Close Race With War 2
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 is keeping the competition intense. After opening at ₹51.5 crore, the action thriller collected ₹55.79 crore on Day 2, pushing its total to ₹107.29 crore. The gap between the two big releases now stands at just about ₹2.5 crore, making the weekend battle one of the closest in recent years.
Overseas Records for Coolie
Globally, Coolie has delivered a massive start. The film grossed nearly $8 million overseas on Day 1, while its worldwide opening day total stood at ₹151 crore — the highest ever for a Tamil film and the seventh-biggest for any Indian release.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features Rajinikanth alongside Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra, with a cameo by Aamir Khan. Despite mixed-to-positive reviews, audience turnout remains strong with packed shows across markets.
With both Coolie and War 2 neck and neck, the extended holiday weekend is set to decide which film emerges as the box office leader.
