COP30 Launches Maloca: Digital Platform to Expand Global Climate Action Participation.

The Brazilian Presidency of COP30 has launched Maloca, a pioneering digital platform aimed at broadening participation in climate action worldwide. Developed as a COP30 legacy, Maloca offers an inclusive, immersive space for dialogue, collaboration, and solution-sharing, with a special focus on voices from the Global South.

The platform embodies COP30’s priorities: strengthening multilateralism, connecting climate policies to daily life, and accelerating the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Through virtual environments, governments, civil society, and communities can share solutions, host discussions, and engage directly in global climate action—extending COP30’s impact far beyond Belém.

At the launch, COP30 President-Designate Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago announced that civil society organizations can now register to host sessions on the platform. Developed in partnership with UNDP, Maloca is accessible via web and mobile apps, removing geographic and resource barriers.

“Through Maloca, we ensure this COP is as inclusive as possible and inspire trust in multilateralism and the UN,” said Corrêa do Lago. COP30 CEO Ana Toni added, “Maloca enables debates not just during COP, but throughout the year, allowing global participation.” UNDP’s Marcos Neto called it “a platform that amplifies voices and solutions to change the world for the better.”

Key features of Maloca include:

  • AI-powered translation in seven languages.
  • Capacity for up to 7,200 events across 20 virtual environments during the 15-day COP30.
  • Macaozinho, an AI climate assistant trained on UN documents for science-based guidance.

Tested during New York Climate Week with over 4,000 participants, Maloca is part of the Route to Belém initiative by UNDP Brazil and the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. By creating this digital space, the Brazilian Presidency emphasizes that climate action is a global responsibility, leaving a lasting COP30 legacy beyond Belém.
