Amid worsening air pollution in the national capital, the Delhi Labour Department on Tuesday announced work-from-home norms for offices and financial relief for construction workers affected by restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

From December 18, office attendance across government offices and business establishments in Delhi will be limited to 50 per cent, with the remaining staff working from home. Offices have also been directed to adopt flexible working hours. Essential services such as healthcare, jails, public transport, electricity and other critical departments have been exempted.

The department also announced compensation of Rs 10,000 for all registered construction workers who lost employment during the suspension of construction activity. Construction work remained halted for 16 days while Delhi was under GRAP Stage 3. Compensation linked to GRAP Stage 4 will be assessed once restrictions are lifted.

Officials said the registration portal for construction workers remains open to ensure wider coverage of beneficiaries.

The move comes as Delhi’s air quality showed slight improvement on Wednesday morning, with the AQI at 328, still in the ‘very poor’ category. Dense smog continued to blanket parts of the city, reducing visibility during early hours.
