A terror alert has reportedly been issued for Delhi following intelligence inputs about a possible attack plot by the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), with religious places — particularly a temple near the Red Fort area — flagged as potential targets.
According to senior Delhi Police officers cited in media reports, initial inputs about possible LeT threats to religious sites in the capital were received ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. In response, authorities placed the city on high alert and enhanced security around key religious establishments. Special Cell officers convened meetings to review preparedness and anti-terror measures.
Fresh alerts were reportedly received after the February 6 suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan, which killed at least 31 people. Subsequent intelligence inputs suggested LeT may be planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Delhi, with a temple in the Chandni Chowk area mentioned as a possible target.
Intelligence sources quoted by ANI and PTI indicated that the group could be seeking to avenge the Islamabad blast and may be plotting a significant strike in India. The reports mentioned concerns about potential threats to temples near the Red Fort and other major religious sites.
Security stepped up across the city
Officials said security arrangements have been intensified in sensitive and high-footfall areas, especially around religious places in Old Delhi. With Mahashivratri approaching, police reportedly increased deployments at prominent Lord Shiva temples and other celebration venues.
Authorities have strengthened surveillance through expanded CCTV monitoring, vehicle checks, and additional personnel at vulnerable locations. Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and quick reaction teams have also been placed on standby as precautionary measures.
One officer, speaking anonymously, noted that while earlier inputs were later deemed inconsequential, heightened security continues due to ongoing high-profile events in the capital. Delhi routinely remains on alert given its status as a sensitive location in intelligence assessments.

The latest advisory follows earlier warnings from intelligence agencies about potential threats to Delhi and other cities ahead of Republic Day. Those alerts had flagged concerns about possible activities by Khalistani-linked groups and other extremist networks.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed specific details of the current threat, and some reports noted that the information could not be independently verified. However, security agencies and Delhi Police are said to be maintaining close coordination and vigilance.
Police have urged the public to remain alert, avoid spreading rumours, and cooperate with security checks as preventive measures remain in place.
