Dhanashree Verma Opens Up on Divorce From Yuzvendra Chahal: ‘I Was Howling, Couldn’t Control Myself’

Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma’s divorce earlier this year grabbed headlines, but until now, Dhanashree had stayed silent. In a candid conversation with Humans of Bombay, she shared the emotional toll of ending her five-year marriage and recalled the unexpected stunt Chahal pulled outside court.

“It was very emotional for me and my family,” Dhanashree said. “Even though you are mentally prepared, when the verdict is about to be given, it still hits hard. I started howling and crying in front of everyone. I can’t even express what I felt in that moment.”

To avoid the media glare, she left quietly through a back gate with her best friend. “I didn’t want cameras all over my face. I was in a simple T-shirt and jeans, sitting in the car, still trying to catch my breath. It was that shaky moment, especially when you know people will blame you only.”

She admitted that she expected judgment from the public even before Chahal’s now-famous T-shirt moment. “I knew people would hold me responsible. Until I saw the photo, I didn’t want to believe it. In that second, I thought—why should I cry for this? That gave me the push to laugh it off instead.”

Asked if the T-shirt was his way of sending a final message, she quipped, “Arre bhai, WhatsApp kar deta!”

Chahal, meanwhile, had explained in a podcast that he wanted to send “one message” after something had happened from the other side. “Now everyone can go to hell, I’ll do what I want,” he said.

The couple filed for divorce in February 2024, with the separation finalized earlier this year. Post-split, Dhanashree has faced heavy online trolling, while Chahal is reported to be dating content creator RJ Mahvash.
