Dipika Kakar Discharged After 14-Hour Cancer Surgery, Shoaib Ibrahim Says: ‘We’ve Only Crossed One Milestone’.
Actor Shoaib Ibrahim has shared an emotional health update about his wife, Dipika Kakar, who recently underwent a major surgery for stage 2 liver cancer. After spending 11 days in the hospital, Dipika has now been discharged — but the couple’s battle is far from over.
A Milestone, Not the Finish Line
In a vlog shared on YouTube, Shoaib revealed, “Dipika got discharged after 11 days and came for a check-up. These past few days were extremely difficult, but we are grateful for the prayers and support we’ve received. The major part — the surgery — went well. She is recovering, but this is just the beginning. We’ve crossed one milestone; many more remain.”
Dipika underwent a 14-hour surgery earlier this month during which her tumour was removed. Her gall bladder and a portion of her liver were also taken out.
An Emotional Departure
As she left the hospital, Dipika was seen hugging nurses and thanking doctors who had cared for her during her stay. Shoaib recalled the moment they were told the tumour was malignant: “We both broke down in front of the doctor. He was so kind, he said, ‘Take your time. We understand.’ That stayed with us.”
Dipika’s surgery was complex, but doctors reassured the couple that the removed liver tissue would regenerate over time. Still, the malignant nature of the tumour means regular follow-ups are necessary. The couple will return for another evaluation in a week to decide on further treatment, if needed.
“Your Prayers Gave Us Strength”
In the vlog, Dipika appeared alongside Shoaib, quietly emotional as he spoke. She reunited with their son Ruhaan and other family members after being discharged. At the end of the video, Dipika thanked fans for their support. “A lot of you took out time to pray for me. That gave us strength. You have no idea how motivating that was during such tough times.”
Shoaib also mentioned that they had delayed posting the vlog as a mark of respect for the victims of the recent Ahmedabad plane crash. Both he and Dipika offered their condolences to the affected families.
“One Step at a Time”
While the road ahead includes follow-ups and potential further treatment, Shoaib stressed that they are focused on healing slowly. “For now, we are taking things one step at a time. We’re hopeful.”
