India’s Bangladesh Tour Likely Off Amid Diplomatic Row: Sources

India’s six-match white-ball series against Bangladesh, scheduled for August, is likely to be scrapped due to escalating diplomatic tensions between the two countries. According to sources, the Indian government has advised the BCCI to call off the tour in light of the current political and trade situation.

“The political climate in Bangladesh is unstable, and given the diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has recommended that the tour not proceed,” a source told India Today.

Trade Tensions at the Core
Tensions between the two nations have intensified following recent trade restrictions. In April, Bangladesh imposed curbs on Indian goods. In response, India restricted the entry of Bangladeshi products — especially ready-made garments and processed foods — through key northeastern trade routes in a May 17 notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Uncertainty for Both Sides
The tour, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, was expected to begin on August 17 and serve as a key preparatory series for India ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Indian T20I team hasn’t played since their 4-1 home series win against England in February.

Currently, Team India is touring England for a five-match Test series. After that, they are scheduled to host the West Indies for a Test series in October. The cancellation of the Bangladesh tour would leave a gap in India’s limited-overs calendar.

An official statement from the BCCI is still awaited.
