Divya Deshmukh To Enter Open Section At FIDE Grand Swiss 2025.

Fresh off her historic FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph, Divya Deshmukh has confirmed she will compete in the Open section of the FIDE Grand Swiss, set to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 3–15.

The 19-year-old scripted history in Batumi by defeating compatriot Humpy Koneru in the final. After two classical draws, she prevailed in the tie-breaker to claim the title, becoming India’s 88th Grandmaster and the first Indian woman to lift the Women’s World Cup. The victory also brought her $50,000 in prize money and the coveted GM norm.

Divya credited her success to mental discipline, explaining that she used meditation to stay calm under pressure and focused only on one game at a time.

Her return to Nagpur saw jubilant celebrations, with the chess community hailing her as a pathbreaker. Now, by stepping into the open category in Samarkand, she is set to test herself against some of the world’s top players.
