Raj Thackeray Warns BJP MP: ‘Come to Mumbai, We’ll Drown You in the Sea.’

MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Friday lashed out at BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for his controversial “patak patak ke maarenge” remark targeting Marathi speakers. Speaking at a rally in Mira-Bhayandar, Thackeray hit back: “A BJP MP said they will thrash Marathi people. Tell him to come to Mumbai — we’ll drown him in the sea, again and again.”

Dubey had earlier challenged a “bahut bade boss” to step outside Maharashtra, saying those attacking Hindi speakers would be “thrashed” elsewhere. His remarks come amid a rising political row in Maharashtra over the imposition of Hindi in schools and public spaces.

Thackeray, a vocal opponent of Hindi imposition, reiterated his party’s stand against forcing the language in Maharashtra. “If they push Hindi in primary schools, we won’t hesitate to shut them down,” he warned.

He also accused the BJP of testing public reaction with a larger aim of “merging Mumbai with Gujarat,” and claimed Marathi has a cultural legacy of 3,000 years, unlike Hindi, which he said was only 200 years old.

Thackeray further questioned why attacks on migrants in Gujarat don’t receive the same national outrage as language-related incidents in Maharashtra.

The comments come amid ongoing tensions over language identity in the state, with the Fadnavis government under fire from opposition parties for allegedly promoting Hindi at the cost of Marathi.
