Radhika Yadav’s Father Breaks Down in Custody, Urges Family: ‘Ensure I’m Hanged.’
Deepak Yadav, the father of 25-year-old state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav, broke down after meeting family members in police custody and asked them to ensure that he is executed for killing his daughter, investigators said.
The 51-year-old is accused of shooting Radhika three times while she was cooking in the kitchen of their Gurugram home on July 10. She was pronounced dead on the scene. The killing has shocked the local community, as Radhika was not only a promising athlete but also ran her own tennis academy.
“He said he had committed kanya vadh (the killing of one’s daughter),” her uncle Vijay Yadav told ANI. “He told us, and said it at the police station too — ‘If there’s a rule of hanging, then hang me.’”
According to police officials, Deepak Yadav has shared very little during interrogation and appears visibly shaken.
“He has provided limited responses,” an investigator said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “He seems to be in a state of deep shock or guilt.”
Police said Deepak told them he had been feeling depressed for the past 15 days and had been disturbed by remarks from people who allegedly mocked him for “living off his daughter’s earnings.” Investigators believe that feelings of humiliation and wounded pride may have contributed to the crime.
Radhika’s mother, Manju Yadav, who was also present in the house at the time, has been cleared of any involvement.
“There was some initial suspicion, but the investigation found no evidence that she was aware of the plan or witnessed the shooting,” said Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar. “All findings so far suggest that Deepak acted alone.”
Deepak Yadav remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
