Farah Khan Opens Up About Marriage, Friendships, and Why She Stopped Dragging Shirish Kunder to Bollywood Parties.

Farah Khan has always been known for her wit and brutal honesty — but she admits that saying exactly what’s on her mind hasn’t always worked out. In a candid chat with Sania Mirza on her YouTube show Serving It Up With Sania, the filmmaker spoke about friendships, boundaries, and how fame once complicated her relationship with husband Shirish Kunder.

“Sometimes I do tend to offend my friends,” Farah confessed. “I’m realising as I grow older that I don’t need to tell them the truth all the time. Some friends, especially the ones in films, are becoming a bit picky.”

Finding Balance in Marriage
Farah also opened up about the early challenges of her marriage. “In the beginning, it was very difficult — we’d fight when I forced him to come out with me,” she said.

Public attention, she explained, often made Shirish uncomfortable. “Not just the industry — the world is full of a*****, so they’ll always focus on whoever’s more successful at that point,” Farah said frankly. “People would only talk to me and ignore my husband. I didn’t like it, and neither did he.”

Eventually, the couple agreed to prioritize peace over appearances. “If he’s uncomfortable with a certain crowd, he doesn’t have to come,” Farah shared. “I just want him to be happy.”

‘We Don’t Need Red-Carpet PDA to Prove Anything’
The filmmaker also revealed why she and Shirish don’t indulge in the usual celebrity couple displays. “We’re secure in our marriage — we don’t need to hold hands on the red carpet,” she said. “Sometimes I feel that the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something’s brewing.”

Two Decades Strong
Farah and Shirish married in 2004 and welcomed triplets in 2008. After two decades together, Farah says their relationship works because they’ve learned to respect each other’s differences — and to laugh through everything else.

Her reflections show a woman who’s unapologetically herself — honest, grounded, and still finding humor in how she balances fame, friendship, and family.
