FIR Filed Against Gurpatwant Pannun for Threatening Unrest in Delhi Ahead of Republic Day

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has registered a first information report (FIR) against Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for allegedly threatening unrest in the capital ahead of Republic Day. The move comes after Pannun released a video claiming “sleeper cells” had put up pro-Khalistan posters in Rohini and Dabri, officials said Friday.

The FIR cites Sections 196, 197, 152, and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), covering promoting enmity, actions prejudicial to national integration, acts endangering sovereignty, and criminal conspiracy. Police said no such posters were found at the locations mentioned in the video. The video reportedly included abusive slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and offered a US$111,000 reward for preventing the PM from hoisting the national flag and placing Khalistan flags on railway tracks in Punjab.

“A FIR has been registered and the matter is being investigated. All claims in the video are being verified, and online platforms are being closely monitored,” said a senior officer.

The filing comes amid heightened security for the 77th Republic Day celebrations, with Delhi Police and paramilitary forces deployed in a multi-layered security cordon across Kartavya Path and New Delhi to counter potential threats flagged by intelligence agencies.
