Three Singapore-Based NRIs Questioned by Assam CID in Zubeen Garg Death Case.

Three Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from Singapore, who were present at the yacht party on September 19 with singer Zubeen Garg and are key witnesses to the incident that led to his death, arrived in Guwahati on Monday to join the investigation conducted by Assam CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The NRIs — Jalongsat Narzary, Parikshit Sharma, and Siddhartha Bora, all originally from Assam — were questioned for five hours, after which their statements were recorded before a magistrate. Last week, another NRI, Rupkamal Kalita, had appeared before the SIT, bringing the total number of NRIs questioned so far to four.

In total, 11 NRIs who attended the yacht party have been summoned to Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned that those who fail to appear will face strict action with support from Singaporean authorities. Zubeen Garg’s family has demanded justice within 10 days. His wife, Garima, and younger sister, Dr Palmie Borthakur, shared their demand on Facebook.

SIT chief MP Gupta stated that the team has sought permission from Singaporean authorities to visit the site of the accident on September 30.

“We are hopeful of a positive response soon. Once official clearance is granted, we will move swiftly to examine the death site and gather details. The Singaporean authorities are conducting a separate investigation and have requested official documents from Assam Police, which have been provided,” Gupta said.

Regarding custody of arrested individuals, Gupta confirmed that all have been held for the maximum 14 days permitted by law and will be presented in court for further proceedings. He dismissed speculation of delays, assuring that the final report will be submitted within the stipulated period.

“Every effort is being made to bring the investigation to a logical conclusion,” he added.
