So near, yet so far for Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite winning the toss, they failed to make it count and slipped to another defeat, remaining winless after six matches this IPL season.
Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, extended their resurgence, riding on Shubman Gill’s classy 86 to seal a tense five-wicket win. Chasing 181, Gujarat were powered early by Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who gave the innings a flying start. Gill looked in complete control from the outset, piercing the off side with ease and punishing anything loose. Sudharsan matched the intent, and GT raced to 40 without loss inside the first three overs.
KKR struck back through Sunil Narine, who removed Sudharsan with extra bounce, but Gujarat stayed ahead in the contest. Jos Buttler carried the momentum with aggressive intent before Varun Chakravarthy broke through, briefly pulling KKR back into the game.
Gill, however, remained the anchor. Mixing timing with smart strike rotation, he ensured Gujarat never drifted behind the required rate. His half-century came off just 27 balls, setting up the chase with authority. Even as KKR picked up wickets in the middle overs, the equation remained under control for GT. Gill eventually fell for 86, brilliantly caught by Cameron Green at deep third, but by then the damage had been done.
Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan then calmly finished the job in a nervy final phase, guiding Gujarat Titans to their third straight win. Earlier, KKR’s innings revolved around Cameron Green’s composed 79. After early setbacks—including a golden duck for Ajinkya Rahane and quick strikes from Kagiso Rabada—Green held the innings together and rebuilt with useful partnerships.
He kept KKR in the fight with controlled aggression, but lacked sustained support at the other end. Despite reaching a competitive position, KKR lost momentum at the death, collapsing in a cluster of wickets. Green’s late dismissal summed up their innings—valiant but incomplete—as KKR were bowled out for 180, a total that ultimately proved just short against a well-paced Gujarat chase.
