Govind Namdev Clarifies Dating Rumours With Shivangi Verma: “It Hurt My Personal Life”.

Veteran actor Govind Namdev has spoken out about the rumours linking him romantically with actress Shivangi Verma, who is 30 years younger. The speculation arose after a promotional photo of the two went viral ahead of their upcoming film Gaurishankar Goharganj Wale. Namdev, 70, has now clarified that the photo was part of a planned publicity strategy — one that ultimately caused personal distress.

Namdev revealed the photo was taken with the film’s promotion in mind. “When the film was being planned, the team — including the director, producer, and Shivangi — discussed creating a strong publicity angle. We had already shot scenes and taken some good pictures together,” he said.

Namdev added that it was Shivangi’s idea to create the perception of a romantic connection to attract attention. “She said, ‘Let’s show chemistry. Content matters most.’ I agreed, but I wasn’t aware she’d tag the film and circulate the photos in a way that implied a real relationship. That’s where the misunderstanding began,” he explained.

The veteran actor admitted the rumours impacted him personally. “People began speculating unnecessarily. I don’t like to be part of such drama, and I stopped talking to her because of it,” he said. He also addressed the claims that the rumours affected his marriage. “There were whispers that my wife and I were living separately, but I chose not to respond. The truth is evident to those who want to see it. I’m not here to prove anything,” Namdev said firmly.

When asked if he is open to romantic roles at this stage in his career, Namdev replied, “If the script makes sense — whether it’s with an older or same-age actress — I’m open to it.” Namdev is known for his intense roles in acclaimed films such as Satya, Sarfarosh, Shool, and Bandit Queen. Despite the recent controversy, he remains committed to his craft and continues to command respect for his on-screen performances.
