H-1B Visas Under Fire: Senator Raises Pause Demand Amid MAGA Pushback

MAGA Supporters Back Senator’s Call to Halt H-1B Visas, Target Indian Workers Online.

A fresh controversy has erupted after Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee asked on X whether it was time to pause the H-1B visa program, a scheme widely used by Indian tech professionals to work in the United States.

Lee’s post triggered an outpouring of support from MAGA loyalists, many of whom branded the visa program a “scam” and claimed it takes away jobs from “young, educated white Americans.” Some users went further, posting racist remarks against Indians, with derogatory slurs trending online and calls for deportation of H-1B holders.

Walmart Rumours Intensify Debate

The online uproar gained traction after unverified rumours on the anonymous workplace app Blind and on X alleged fraud in Walmart’s Global Tech division, including claims of kickbacks in contract hiring.
Walmart, however, dismissed the speculation, clarifying that its internal investigation was unrelated to visas or Indian employees.

Rising Concerns Over Racism

The backlash comes at a time when Indians have faced rising racist attacks in both the US and Europe. World leaders, including the President of Ireland, have recently warned that online hate speech is increasingly spilling over into real-world violence. With former President Donald Trump’s renewed focus on immigration, the debate over H-1B visas is expected to become a flashpoint in the US political discourse ahead of the elections.
