Hemant Soren Urges Protesting Students To Stay Calm, Assures Action On Demands

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday appealed for peace among protesting students following police action during the ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march, assuring them that the government had heard their concerns and would act on their demands with “utmost seriousness and sensitivity.”

In a post on X, Soren said students had raised their demands peacefully and had a democratic right to express their views. He said it was the government’s responsibility to listen to and respect their voices.

“The government has heard you,” Soren said, adding that senior ministers had been in regular dialogue with the students.

Soren said the government was committed to addressing the protesters’ demands and working to eliminate shortcomings in the examination system so that students would not face similar problems in the future.

Focus On Transparent Examination System

The Chief Minister said his government wanted to make the state’s examination system “more transparent, technology-enabled, secure, and accountable.”

He said students would have an important role in bringing about these reforms.

Soren added that Jharkhand should set an example of resolving disputes through dialogue and solutions rather than allowing issues to turn into prolonged conflicts.

“Let us resolve this issue together through dialogue and trust,” he said.

CM Warns Students Against Political Influence

Soren also alleged that some Opposition members were attempting to disrupt the student movement and mislead protesters for political gains. He appealed to students not to “fall into the trap of any such political narrative,” while describing them as the future of Jharkhand.

The Chief Minister said listening to students and addressing their concerns was part of the government’s responsibility.

Remarks Follow Clashes During Protest

Soren’s statement came hours after clashes between police and protesters during the ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march reportedly left several demonstrators injured. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto was also taken to hospital after his health deteriorated during the agitation.

The Chief Minister’s appeal came amid heightened tensions, with the government seeking to address the students’ concerns through dialogue while urging protesters to maintain peace.
