Massive Landslide Near Nathpa Dam Disrupts Kinnaur Amid Heavy Rains.

Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh triggered a massive landslide near the Nathpa Dam in Kinnaur, officials said. Video footage from PTI shows debris tumbling down the slope after a large section of the hill gave way. The landslide, measuring nearly 200 metres, occurred while five people were present at the site. All were unharmed. Traffic on National Highway 5 has been disrupted, and authorities have urged locals to avoid the area.

Monsoon rains have caused widespread havoc across Himachal. In Kullu, landslides on September 4 and 5 buried houses and threatened lives, prompting rescue operations by the NDRF and local police. The rains have also affected air travel, with around 40% of flights at Kangra Airport canceled over the past two months. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, monsoon damage has disrupted 1,087 roads, 2,838 power lines, and 509 water supply schemes.

Since June 20, 2025, 360 people have died in Himachal due to rain-related incidents including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, and lightning strikes, alongside 163 road accident fatalities.
