Trump Announces $300 Billion Texas Oil Refinery, Thanks Reliance for Support
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday unveiled plans for what he called a historic investment: the first new oil refinery in the United States in 50 years. In a post on Truth Social, he thanked India and its largest privately held energy company, Reliance, for backing the project, though details of any broader partnership with India remain unclear.
The America First Refining facility will be built in Brownsville, Texas, under a USD 300 billion deal aimed at boosting US energy production, creating thousands of jobs, and strengthening economic growth in South Texas. Trump described the refinery as “the biggest deal in US history” and a key milestone for American energy dominance.
“This refinery will fuel US markets, strengthen our national security, and power global exports,” Trump said. He added the facility is expected to become “the cleanest refinery in the world,” delivering billions of dollars in economic impact.
Trump credited his America First agenda, including streamlined permits and lower taxes, for attracting large-scale investment into the US energy sector. “This is what American energy dominance looks like. America First, always!” he wrote.
The announcement comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, as the conflict between Iran and the US-Israel coalition has disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil transit route, pushing global crude prices higher.
The refinery marks a major step in revitalizing US energy infrastructure. Brownsville was previously considered by Dallas-based startup Element Fuels Holdings in 2024 for a similar project, aiming to build the first all-new US refinery in nearly five decades. Trump’s announcement signals the largest push yet toward expanding domestic refining capacity.
