Tarun Garg has been named the new Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., making him the first Indian to lead the company since Hyundai entered the Indian market with the Santro in 1996.
His tenure begins on 1 January 2026, replacing Unsoo Kim, who will return to South Korea for a strategic role at the parent company. The appointment is subject to shareholder approval, with Garg serving as MD & CEO designate until then.
About Tarun Garg
A mechanical engineer and IIM Lucknow graduate, Garg started his career in 1994 as a management trainee at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., rising to executive director of marketing by 2019.
He joined Hyundai India in December 2019 as director (sales, marketing & service) and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in January 2023. Under his and Unsoo Kim’s leadership, Hyundai India successfully executed the country’s largest IPO last year, reinforcing the company’s market position.
