Mohammad Yousuf Slams ICC Over Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Snub

Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has launched a scathing attack on the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Bangladesh were removed from the T20 World Cup 2026, citing concerns over fairness and governance.

Bangladesh pulled out of the tournament’s India-leg matches over security concerns. The ICC reviewed the matter but concluded there was no credible threat, replacing Bangladesh with Scotland — a decision that has sparked widespread debate among players and fans alike.

Yousuf also highlighted the potential impact on global viewership, pointing out Bangladesh’s massive audience. “The combined cricket viewership of ten smaller nations — New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, Nepal, Netherlands, Ireland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan — is roughly equal to Bangladesh’s alone: 178 million vs 176 million,” he wrote on X.

He criticized the ICC for selective decision-making, saying, “Sidelining Bangladesh’s legitimate security concerns raises serious questions about consistency and governance. Cricket cannot be run by influence — it must be guided by principle.”

Pakistan Weighs Protest

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed support for Bangladesh and is reportedly considering options to protest the ICC’s decision. Possibilities include skipping their group-stage match against India in Colombo on February 15 or even a complete withdrawal from the tournament.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that a final decision on Pakistan’s participation will be made by January 30 or February 2.
