ICICI Bank Hikes Minimum Balance Rules: Biggest Jump Yet in Indian Banking.
From August 1, 2025, ICICI Bank will sharply raise the minimum average balance (MAB) for new savings accounts, setting the highest benchmark among domestic banks.
New Minimum Balance Requirements
Metro & Urban branches: ₹10,000 → ₹50,000
Semi-urban: ₹5,000 → ₹25,000
Rural: ₹2,500 → ₹10,000
(Rules apply only to accounts opened after August 1, 2025)
ATM Withdrawal Charges
Non-ICICI ATMs (6 metro cities) – 3 free transactions/month; after that:
₹23 per financial transaction
₹8.5 per non-financial transaction
Other cities – 5 free transactions, then same charges as above
International ATMs – ₹125 per withdrawal + 3.5% currency conversion fee
ICICI ATMs – 5 free withdrawals/month, then ₹23 per transaction (non-financial transactions remain free)
Other Key Charges
Debit card annual fee: ₹300 (₹150 in Gramin areas)
Replacement card: ₹300
Printed statements: ₹100 via branch/phone banking (free via ATM, iMobile, or net banking)
Penalty for Low Balance
6% of shortfall or ₹500, whichever is lower
Exemptions: Family Banking programme members (with combined 1.5× threshold balance) and pensioners
This move sets a new high-water mark in India’s savings account requirements. With metros now needing ₹50,000 in minimum balance, industry watchers expect other banks to relook at their own thresholds.
