Imran Khan Says He Fears for His Life, Accuses Army Chief Asim Munir of Targeting Him

Former Pakistani prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan on Tuesday said he fears for his life inside Adiala Jail, where he is serving a 14-year sentence in the Al-Qadir Trust graft case along with additional convictions.

In a statement released by PTI after Khan met his sister Uzma Khan, the former premier alleged that the “military establishment has done everything possible” against him and claimed that the only step left was to “murder” him. The party further said he has been kept in solitary confinement without electricity or sunlight, provided poor-quality food, denied clean drinking water and medical assistance, and deprived of basic facilities typically available to inmates.

Khan claimed he is being treated like a death-row prisoner. “If anything happens to me, the Army Chief and DG ISI will be responsible,” he said, alleging that his conditions match those of inmates awaiting execution.

He described the treatment as “inhumane,” saying he had been “confined in a cage,” left without electricity for five days and kept inside his cell for ten days. He also accused the military leadership, especially Army Chief General Asim Munir, of political persecution.

Uzma Khan was permitted to meet him at the high-security prison in Rawalpindi, located close to the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters. The meeting lasted between 25 and 35 minutes, according to sources quoted by CNN.

People close to Uzma Khan said Imran appeared “fine, fit, and in high spirits.” They added that he remained mentally strong and conveyed messages for PTI’s leadership, while reiterating his allegations of “mental torture” in custody.

Speaking after the meeting, Uzma said her brother was upset about certain aspects of jail administration but maintained that his “morale remained high.”
