US President Donald Trump held a “productive” phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed plans for the latter’s visit to the US, the White House said on Monday.
The two leaders also sought a move towards having a “fair” bilateral trading relationship and deeper cooperation between the two countries. In the White House readout, Trump and PM Modi discussed a range of regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.
“Today, President Donald J Trump held a productive call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. The two leaders discussed expanding and deepening cooperation. They also discussed a range of regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe,” the statement said.
“The President emphasised the importance of India increasing its procurement of American-made security equipment and moving toward a fair bilateral trading relationship. The leaders discussed plans for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic ties between our nations,” it read.
