Incessant rainfall continues to batter parts of the country, particularly Bengaluru, where schools have been closed due to heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department predicted heavy rainfall for today (September 7) in Bengaluru East division. All the government and private primary and high schools have been closed in the area as a precautionary measure. Streets remained waterlogged in the Silicon City of India as rainfall is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.

The torrential rain submerged arterial roads, flooded posh apartment complexes and homes, snapped power lines, and jammed traffic. Some of the areas that are badly hit by waterlogging are Rainbow Drive Layout, Sunny Brooks Layout, Bellandur, Eco Board, and some areas on Sarjapur Road.

Odisha received light to moderate rainfall in some parts of the state on Tuesday, September 6. A new low pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal in the next few days, the weather department said.

The Met issued a yellow alert of heavy rain in some places across Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Koraput and Rayagada on Wednesday, September 7. IMD had issued a red alert in four southern districts of Kerala – Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki – for Tuesday (September 6).

All the educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram remained closed on Tuesday. The hilly regions received light to moderate rainfall and people living in the region have been asked to be cautious.

However, there was no rainfall reported in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall also lashed parts of Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai.
