“India Accuses Pakistan of Spreading Lies, Attempting to Legitimize Terrorism at UN Security Council”
India Accuses Pakistan of Spreading Lies, Using Terrorism as State Policy at UN Security Council
India launched a strong rebuttal against Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), with Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish accusing Islamabad of spreading falsehoods, legitimising terrorism, and repeatedly violating international commitments.
Pakistan’s Narrative Rejected
Harish addressed the UNSC, saying he was responding to “the comments of the representative of Pakistan, an elected member of the Security Council, which has a single-point agenda to harm my country and my people.”
He dismissed Pakistan’s version of events surrounding India’s military actions last year as “false and self-serving.” Referring to the April 2025 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, he said:
“Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 innocent civilians. India acted responsibly to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors accountable.”
India’s response, he stressed, was measured, non-escalatory, and focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure, even as Pakistan continued threatening attacks until May 9, before requesting a cessation of hostilities.
Impact on Pakistani Facilities
Harish highlighted that India’s operations caused visible damage to Pakistani military facilities, including air bases, runways, and hangars, and criticized Pakistan’s attempt to normalise terrorism:
“Terrorism can never be normalised as Pakistan wishes. This chamber cannot become a forum to legitimise terrorism.”
Kashmir and Indus Waters Treaty
On Jammu and Kashmir, Harish reaffirmed:
“Pakistan has no locus standi. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is and will always remain an integral part of India.”
On the Indus Waters Treaty, he accused Pakistan of violating the spirit of the agreement over decades through conflicts and terror attacks, forcing India to place the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
Call for Accountability
The Indian envoy urged Pakistan to introspect on its governance, particularly constitutional provisions granting the military extraordinary powers. He also called for stronger international legal mechanisms and reforms in multilateral institutions, describing them as essential for global peace and security.
