IND vs AUS: Rain Washes Out 5th T20I at Gabba, India Clinch Series 2–1 to Extend 13-Year Unbeaten Run.

India wrapped up their T20I tour of Australia on a satisfying note, sealing the five-match series 2–1 after the final game at the Gabba in Brisbane was abandoned due to rain on Saturday, 8 November. The result extended India’s unbeaten run in bilateral T20I series Down Under to 13 years.

After Australia chose to field, India raced to 52 for no loss in 4.5 overs before heavy showers halted play. Shubman Gill (29 off 14)* looked in commanding touch, cracking four boundaries in one over from Ben Dwarshuis, while Abhishek Sharma (23 off 13)* began to find fluency after a shaky start. But their bright start was cut short as the weather closed in, forcing officials to call off the match at 8:55 pm local time (4:25 pm IST).

The packed Gabba crowd—dominated by Indian fans—left disappointed as rain denied a proper finale to what had been an entertaining series.

India Maintain Dominance in Australia
India’s 2–1 series win continues a remarkable streak that began in 2012. Since then, the team has never lost a T20I series in Australia—winning 3–0 in 2016, 2–1 in 2020, and now 2–1 in 2025.

The series opener in Canberra and the finale in Brisbane were both washed out, with India’s victories in Sydney and Adelaide proving decisive.

Abhishek Named Player of the Series
Despite a subdued outing in the final, Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series for his consistent batting displays. The 23-year-old opener finished as the leading run-scorer with 163 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 161.38, followed by Shubman Gill (132 runs) and Tim David (89 runs).

“I was waiting for this tour. The pitches here are great for batting, and though we could’ve posted bigger totals, I’m happy with the way we played,” Abhishek said after receiving the award.

Bowling Depth Tested
India made full use of the tour to rotate players, giving opportunities to 15 of the 16 squad members—only all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy didn’t feature.

Varun Chakravarthy emerged as the standout spinner with five wickets, while Arshdeep Singh impressed in his limited chances, picking up four wickets in two outings. Rinku Singh, who got his first game of the series, didn’t get a chance to bat due to rain.

Next Stop: South Africa Series
India’s next T20I challenge comes at home against South Africa, with a five-match series scheduled from December 9 to 19 in Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.
