PM Modi to Skip UNGA General Debate; S. Jaishankar to Represent India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not address the General Debate at the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA) later this month. India will instead be represented by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who is scheduled to speak on September 27.

The high-level General Debate runs from September 23–29, with Brazil speaking first and US President Donald Trump addressing world leaders on September 23. PM Modi was earlier scheduled for September 26 alongside leaders from Israel, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

The 80th UNGA, themed “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,” will include key meetings on climate action, sustainable economies, gender equality, AI governance, youth programs, and minority rights, including the Rohingya crisis.

The UNGA speaker list remains provisional and may be updated before the session begins.
