The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Wednesday.
Along with the infiltration bid, terrorists also carried out a Border Action Team (BAT) strike near Tikka Post in the Uri sector. The attack occurred in the Area of Responsibility of the 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) under the jurisdiction of Police Station Uri. Reports indicate that two soldiers lost their lives, though the Indian Army has not yet officially confirmed the casualties.
An exchange of fire was ongoing Wednesday morning, with further details awaited.
This incident comes a day after Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar died while on operational duty along the LoC in Baramulla. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps expressed deep condolences, stating, “Chinar Corps deeply regret the loss of Braveheart Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, who sacrificed his life while performing operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district. We salute his valour and stand in solidarity with his family.”
Earlier, on Monday, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi mourned the deaths of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, who were killed during Operation Kulgam amid ongoing anti-terrorist operations in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff paid tribute on X, stating that General Chauhan and all ranks of the Indian Armed Forces saluted the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers and extended heartfelt condolences to their families, pledging full support in their time of grief.
